Marble effect bathroom wall panels are the perfect match for interior design influencer

When Laura Hall, the interiors and home-styling influencer behind @thehexagonalhouse on Instagram, set about her loft conversion, she wanted the conversion to act as a sanctuary away from the rest of the house, creating a space to relax and unwind.

Now, after completing a project which was eight years in the making, Laura has a master bedroom accompanied by an en suite with a gorgeous walk-in shower. As part of the design, Laura chose Marmo Migliore bathroom wall panels from our Elite collection, a beautiful marble design with dark, prominent veining. We asked Laura more about her new en suite, and why she decided to opt for Mermaid Panels:

Why did you decide to opt for shower panels over tiles?

“I had actually never heard of shower panels before I came across Mermaid, but as soon as I saw them I knew they’d be perfect for this space. The en suite is a strange shape because of the angled roof, so we had to be quite clever with how we used the space. The panels were great for this as they could be easily cut to fit the shape of the shower area. I love that they’re 100% waterproof, especially as I don’t want any leaks affecting the roof.

“I think they look so sleek and sophisticated; they match our theme perfectly! The lack of grouting was also a big draw as they’re much easier to clean and maintain than tiles.

Why did you opt for our Marmo Migilore décor?

“I always envisioned having a marble effect in the en suite as it’s such a timeless finish. I ordered a few samples from Mermaid to help me decide and managed to narrow it down to two – one with a gloss finish, and one that was matt. I ended up picking the matt finish as I felt it wouldn’t show smears as much. I also think because the window in the space lets in a lot of light, we didn’t need a gloss finish to reflect light.

How did your tradesperson find installing the panels?

“Our builder was completely unfamiliar with bathroom wall panels so at first, he was a little hesitant. However, as soon as he saw the samples, he was impressed with the look and feel of them! When it came to fitting the chosen panels, he was surprised at how easy they were to work with. They were much quicker, easier, and less messy than tiling! Both he and our plumber were complete converts and will be recommending shower panels to their future clients. It also worked out far cheaper than tiling due to the quicker install process

How have you found cleaning and maintenance of the shower panels since their installation?

“They’re great! They don’t retain water, so don’t need a huge amount of cleaning, I just simply spray and wipe them once a week. The matt finish also means they don’t show smudges or smears, so they’re not high maintenance – I don’t feel like I need to wipe them after every shower to remove marks. Bathroom wall panels really are perfect for me as I’m lazy when it comes to cleaning, so anything that makes that process easier is great!

Would you consider opting for bathroom wall panels again in the future?

“Absolutely! I’d definitely use them again for any future projects,
without a doubt.”

Whether you’re looking to give your bathroom a refresh, or embarking on a complete renovation, Mermaid shower panels are the perfect solution.

Not only do they provide a visually appealing tile alternative, they’re low-maintenance, easy to clean and don’t run the risk of the same amount of mould build-up over time. Panels can easily be fitted directly to existing surfaces, including plasterboard and tiling, which means you don’t have to worry about preparing the wall beneath.
